What type of coach are you
My coaching style varies. It mostly depends on the goalies age and personality. But overall I’d say my coaching style is observant. I like to watch the goalies and when they come out of the net give them feedback. Obviously if there’s something that I see that needs to be corrected right away, I will help the goalie out in that sense.
Favorite goalie growing up
Marc-Andre Fleury
Best game you’ve ever played
I was a bantam in the regional silver stick tournament championship game. I was playing for the Highland Park Falcons, and we were playing the Naperville Sabres, a team we absolutely did not get along with. The games against them were always close and intense. We usually came out on top except this game. We ended up losing the game 2-0, and if I remember correctly the shots were 51-14. I ended up getting MVP of the tournament. It is definitely a game I will remember from my youth career.
What lessons has hockey taught you
The game of hockey has not only taught me to be an athlete, but it has helped me mature. Hockey has really taught time management. Hockey is not your average sport. There’s so much time and money invested into it.
What makes being a goalie so hard
It has the most stress on the body and mind. The position makes you bend your body in ways that it should not be bent and then on top of that your mind can be best friend when you have confidence, and your worst enemy when things are not going well. Goalies are the only position in all of team sports where you play the entire game.
Favorite subject in school
Physics
What would you do if you couldn’t play hockey
If I wasn’t playing hockey I think I’d be a totally different person, I have absolutely no idea what my interests would be and what I might be doing if I was not in hockey.
Favorite book
The Power Within by Mike Valley
Favorite band(s)
Eric Church, Tyga
Where do you see yourself in 10 years
I’d still love to be playing hockey, it has taken up such a big part of my life, and letting go and not playing competitively any more is a pretty sad thought. But all good things do come to an end. If that’s the case then I hope to have my masters in civil engineering, with a well-paying job, and maybe great women in my life.
Favorite sports quote
“I owe any of the success that I have to hard work” –Tim Thomas
Favorite type of save to make
My favorite type of save to make are in tight hand saves, after learning about aggressive hands (from Eric) it really help develop me game. I like them so much because shooters love to shoot for cheese whenever there in close, and if you just get your hands at the puck the shooter will shoot into hands 9 out of 10 times.
