This camp is meant for those goalies who are advancing in the position and looking to train at a higher level. The physical demands of this camp are more extensive than our “Younger” session and are meant for only those goalies who take the game seriously and want to improve upon strength, flexibility, core, cardio and balance. Yoga is one way we implement these facets into the program, as well as high intensity circuit training. The last component of this camp consists of an intense hip strengthening program. All week, the goalies will learn to use therapy bands, do prehab exercises and isolated movements to help maintain the body and prevent injury in the most common areas goalies tend to get injured. The video sessions are also different as goalies will watch more clips of current NHL and pro goalies, breaking down the details of the position from the best in the world that play the game. Each day brings a new “theme” to the video session, mirroring what components will be worked on and taught on the ice, showing a parallel between what NHL goalies are doing and then what the students will work to accomplish.
The two hour on ice session begins with 30 minutes of focused goalie skating and puck playing practice. We continue to integrate a more complex series of skating drills and patterns; working on smooth crease movement, strong edge work, quick down low coverage, short/controlled vs long/powerful pushes, and multiple post integration techniques. Passing, stick handling, wraps, behind the net play are included.
Following the 30 minute skate, groups of 3 goalies work through the 6 different stations, each led by an instructor who sets up a specific drill or situation, following the theme of the day. High level shooters are utilized all week and will challenge the goalies without compromising the integrity of the drill and focus on who the camp is for.
