Advanced Camp is our premier camp at MGS. This chapter is designed for goalies looking to take the serious plunge into their sport. We want our Advanced Camp goalies to align their game with their passion and begin to truly develop the mental aspects that come with competitive net minding.
The structure with this camp is similar to our Standard Camp, but it’s ramped up to a new degree. This is five days of ice instruction, dryland, and video analysis intensified!
The on ice portion includes technical breakdowns of more “advanced” movements. Goalies will start to utilize their game with inside post play, in tight blocking, shadowing, counter-sliding, and play development reads. At this level we encourage and promote trying new concepts. Goalies are starting to develop their own unique style, and we work with them to enhance their game and technique.
The dryland portion includes a circuit workout with each exercise specifically designed to enhance key “goalie muscles” such as core strength, hip flexibility, foot speed, “prehab” hip strengthening exercises, and hand eye coordination drills. The workouts last on average 45-60 minutes.
As always Friday is competition day! At Advanced Camp, we take a comprehensive save percentage and the students face a variety of different shots; rushes, pass outs, and power-play shots to name a few. The competition ends with a showdown and each goalie has the opportunity to test their breakaway skills to determine a winner.
Advanced camp also provides an individualized binder chocked-full of information on exercises, evaluation breakdowns, game logs, motivational exercises, and a variety of sports psychological articles. This is a chance for the goalie to hone in on their self awareness and record down what they wish to achieve. If you can dream it and you can visualize it you can do it!
