Cole Semchak is currently playing for Robert Morris University-Chicago and having a stellar season. We sat down with Cole and asked him a few questions about his history and thoughts as a goalie.
Years as MGS Student: 1
Years as a MGS Coach: 1
Favorite Goalie growing up: Jonathan Quick
What type of coach you are: My coaching style is adaptive. I will use the goalies’ style to decipher what his/her strengths and weaknesses. I don’t change the goalies’ style to fit what works for me but will work with that particular player.
Best game played: When I was playing juniors in Billings, Montana I put up a 40+ save shutout against the top team in the league. Later that night I had two colleges calling me showing interest.
Most important lesson hockey taught you: Hockey has taught me with good work ethic, great things will come. I’ve tried to pride myself on my work ethic, not just in hockey, but in all aspects of life.
Why is being a goalie hard: I think what makes being a goalie so hard is the mental capacity needed to stay consistent game in and game out. As a forward or D-man you can kinda hide within the team. As a goalie when things aren’t going your way it’s obvious and has a direct influence on the game.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years: I see myself finishing up residency and starting my life as a physician.
